Kadiogo: Farmer Aboubacar Ouattara harvested his first pineapple crop on Tuesday from over two hectares in Kalzi, in the commune of Komsilga, about thirty kilometers from Ouagadougou. This initiative aligns with the food sovereignty movement advocated by the highest authorities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Ouattara stated that the pineapple plants were planted 16 months ago. "In Ouagadougou, it is possible to produce pineapples. With the support of certain partners and the assistance of the Djoda farm, we are obtaining visible results. A few years ago, many thought it was impossible," added the head of the Makongon farm.

The producer welcomed the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, noting that the plowing work was carried out using tractors provided by the Ministry. He requested further support to increase production. 'I thank the Burkinabe authorities for their support. I invite other Burkinabe to take an interest in pineapple cultivation. It is a profitable sector,' he added.

For his part, Oumarou Compaore, promoter of the Djoda farm and trainer of Aboubacar Ouattara, stressed that Makongon is among the first farms trained in pineapple cultivation in the Sahel. 'Pineapple cultivation in the Sahel is very different from that practiced by our neighbors, because the soils and climates are not the same. To those who still hesitate about the profitability of this crop in Burkina Faso, we say to doubt no more: it is profitable and allows for a return on investment,' he assured.

The harvested pineapples were transported directly to Bobo-Dioulasso for industrial processing, according to the farm manager.
