Preparatory Class Teachers in Djibasso Trained for Emergency Education

Djibasso: The Head of the Basic Education District (CCEB), Pascal Coulibaly, presided over a training session for preparatory course teachers focusing on emergency education. Reading, recognized as the cornerstone of all learning, continues to be a significant challenge in numerous classrooms.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training session aimed to address reading difficulties beginning in first grade. Inspector Zoumba Jean Traor© introduced teaching methods tailored for emergency situations, highlighting the Education in Emergency Situations (ESU) model. This approach is particularly beneficial for students in southern Djibasso, where many first-grade students have been affected by school closures due to security concerns.

Inspector Traor©'s session, themed "Reading in First Grade: A Ready-Made Solution," emphasized the role of play in learning. He introduced a two-step reading method: first, creating reading game materials like slates with handles and labels, and then using these materials to link sounds, forming syllables and words. He concluded by stating, 'Teaching is an art; a technique is only as good as its user.'

Inspector Y©da Bako provided additional insights, discussing methods for teaching other subjects, including mathematics and civic and moral education. In mathematics, Bako highlighted the importance of adhering to teaching principles, while in civic and moral education, he stressed the value of leading by example.

Inspector Traor© also introduced the use of computers for managing and completing student records, utilizing the WPS Office application. The participating teachers expressed their appreciation for the training session, which enhanced their pedagogical and technical skills, crucial for strengthening their teaching in the primary school's first year.
