Project PROSPER Launched to Enhance Living Conditions in Namentenga

Namentenga: The High Commissioner of the province of Namentenga, Adama Conseiga, officially launched the Project to Strengthen Food Security and Prosperity for Resilience (PROSPER) on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. This initiative aims to improve the living conditions of 5,000 vulnerable people in the commune of Boulsa by the end of 2027.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project is being implemented by the Catholic Organization for Economic and Social Development (OCADES) of Kaya, with financial backing from the Austrian Development Cooperation and Caritas. The total funding allocated to the project exceeds 850 million CFA francs. The primary beneficiaries are internally displaced persons and vulnerable host households in Boulsa, Namentenga.

The project focuses on supporting and protecting the livelihoods of populations affected by climate change and other factors in the Koulse region. Georges Tarpaga, the national coordinator of the project, shared that planned activities include drilling two boreholes, developing 50 hectares of agricultural land, constructing animal enclosures, and distributing breeding stock, food kits, and micro-enterprise start-up kits.

Father Adelphe Rouamba, the executive secretary of OCADES Kaya, appreciated the recommendations from participants at the launch workshop and emphasized the need for stakeholder support to ensure the project's success. Provincial directors, department heads, and development project managers present at the ceremony pledged their commitment to assist in the implementation of PROSPER on the ground.

The High Commissioner praised the project's technical and financial partners and encouraged additional partners to support Namentenga's development and socio-economic recovery efforts. A similar initiative is also underway in Dori, in the Liptako region.
