Nayala: Provincial authorities mobilized to ensure the success of the meningitis vaccination response. The management team of the Toma health district organized an advocacy meeting on Tuesday to promote meningitis vaccination. The meeting was attended by administrative, traditional, and religious authorities, heads of decentralized services, opinion leaders, and stakeholders from the education and health systems.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Nayala Province, Honor© Fr©d©ric Par©, commended the participants for their mobilization and urged them to fully commit to the campaign's success. He emphasized the crucial role of community leaders in raising awareness and mobilizing social forces.
During the session, Dr. Samat© Ti©r© presented the meningitis situation in the district. According to the data provided, 62 suspected cases, including 5 deaths, had been recorded as of April 5, 2026. They reminded everyone that the disease is transmitted through respiratory droplets and can lead to serious complications.
The communicator also emphasized preventive measures, including vaccination, considered the most effective means, as well as adherence to hygiene rules. The response campaign aims to vaccinate over 75,000 children aged 5 to 19 in the communes of Toma, Yaba, Gossina, and Y©. Fixed and outreach strategies will be used to reach the target groups, including in schools, markets, and places of worship.
However, challenges remain, notably the insufficient number of vaccine doses available to meet the needs. Authorities and leaders have been called upon to intensify awareness efforts in communities and to support vaccination teams to ensure the success of the campaign.
The meeting concluded with discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration between the various actors involved in the fight against this disease with epidemic potential, and the sharing of various information.
