Provincial Vocational Training Center in Sindou Named “Kafunon-so”

Leraba: The provincial vocational training center in Sindou has been officially named "Kafunon-so," reflecting the cultural roots of the area. The High Commissioner of Leraba Province, Yacouba Sawadogo, led the provincial consultation meeting to decide on the name, in alignment with President Captain Ibrahim Traore's major reforms.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ministry responsible for Secondary Education, through its provincial directorate of Leraba, initiated the process to revise the training center's name. The renaming involved an inclusive process, with participation from the administration, customary and religious leaders, and various community members. The primary guiding principle for the new name was to respect the cultural and historical values of the local communities.

The name "Kafunon-so" was selected, honoring the predominantly Senufo and Dioula-speaking population of Leraba. "Kafunon" in Senufo refers to technical mastery or a specific talent, while "So" in Dioula means house. Historically, the name signifies the traditional transmission of skills such as forging, weaving, and construction within the community.

This choice, as indicated by the source, positions the center as a modern successor to the traditions of manual excellence. The training center is part of Burkina Suudu Bawde, the House of Skills of Burkina, within the region. The High Commissioner praised the participants for their humility and collaboration in reaching a consensual decision on this indigenous name.
