Ouagadougou: Russia is the only country in the world with expertise covering the entire nuclear energy chain, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Thursday in Moscow, during a meeting dedicated to the development of this sector organized by videoconference. According to him, this complete mastery, combined with high safety and reliability requirements, allows Russia to maintain a leading position in the construction of nuclear power plants abroad.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting, organized by videoconference, was devoted to the development prospects of the Russian nuclear industry, considered by Moscow as one of the key sectors of its technological and energy development. President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the country intends to continue developing its nuclear power plants to meet growing energy demand and strengthen energy security in various regions of the country. New power plant projects are planned, in particular, in the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East.
The Kremlin chief also emphasized Russia's position in the international civil nuclear market. Through the state-owned company Rosatom, Moscow is involved in several nuclear power plant construction projects abroad. According to the World Nuclear Association, Russia is currently involved in the construction of about twenty reactors outside its borders and is pursuing an active policy of exporting nuclear technologies and services.
For President Putin, Russia's strength lies particularly in its ability to intervene across the entire nuclear chain, from raw materials and the fuel cycle to the construction, operation, and dismantling of nuclear facilities. This statement comes as Russia is pursuing numerous nuclear cooperation projects with several countries. Last May, Moscow and Astana notably signed agreements relating to the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant, a project entrusted to Rosatom.
The Russian President also called for continued development of new nuclear technologies, while maintaining priority on the safety of facilities. According to him, nuclear energy is a strategic sector destined to play an important role in Russia's energy supply and economic development in the coming decades.
