Zorgho: The High Commissioner of Ganzourgou Province, Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, presided over the official flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Tax Directorate (DPI) in Zorgho on Tuesday, marking the official launch of Tax Exemplarity Month in the province. 'Paying taxes, before being a legal obligation, is first and foremost an act of citizenship,' Ms. Sorgho emphasized during the ceremony, which was held on the first Tuesday of March.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, hosted by the Ganzourgou Provincial Tax Directorate this month, aimed to promote tax compliance and encourage citizens to fulfill their obligations. The Provincial Director of Taxes for Ganzourgou, Cyrille Zoungrana, highlighted that the day of exemplary tax conduct is intended to demonstrate tax citizenship and governance by example within the public administration.
Mr. Zoungrana pointed out that the initiative primarily targets public officials, urging them to pay personal taxes such as the motor vehicle tax (TVM), the residence tax, and the weapons tax. He also revealed that the 2026 budget forecasts for the six municipalities under the Ganzourgou Provincial Directorate of Infrastructure (DPI) amount to over 437,906,000 FCFA, with projected state revenue collection standing at 478,034,000 FCFA.
He urged citizens to support the operation's success, reminding them of the March 31 deadline for personal tax payments, and cautioned that non-compliance would lead to prosecution and penalties.
The High Commissioner expanded the initiative to a "month of exemplary tax practices" in the province, calling on administrative bodies, economic operators, traditional and religious authorities, and all citizens to exhibit transparency and fiscal responsibility. She underscored that tax payments contribute to national sovereignty and development financing.
Demonstrating her commitment, the High Commissioner, along with other officials, paid her individual taxes during the ceremony. Additionally, the Provincial Director of the National Police of Ganzourgou introduced the unit of the Republican Security Company (CRS) now stationed in Zorgho to operate throughout the provincial territory.
