Sissili/religion: A group of young people from the Muslim and Christian faiths organized a communal iftar (breaking of the fast) this Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Place de la Nation in Leo. Presided over by the High Commissioner of the Sissili Province, Tewende Isaac Sia, this initiative aims to celebrate living together in harmony and strengthen bonds of brotherhood during this month of shared penitence.
According to Burkina Information Agency, for the second year in a row, the Place de la Nation in Leo served as the setting to celebrate interfaith solidarity. Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, and traditional leaders came together around a shared dish to demonstrate their unity.
For the organizing committee, this gesture symbolizes the tree of fraternity under which religious differences become the "colored threads of the same strong and united national fabric". The chairman of the organizing committee, Basile Nabole, stated that this second edition follows the success of the previous year. "The goal is to allow different communities to pray together for the return of peace. Despite the financial challenges, the mobilization of goodwill has made it possible to meet this challenge of cohesion," he explained.
Opinion leaders, one after another, praised the spiritual and social significance of the initiative. The representative of the canton chief opened the series of speeches by expressing his hope that God would reward a hundredfold these acts of kindness that strengthen the bonds between the sons and daughters of the province.
For Pastor Andre Nignan, representing the Protestant community, this gathering is a practical application of the Holy Scriptures. "Without peace in the country or in the home, it is difficult to live together. What I see tonight touches me deeply," he confided, expressing hopes that the obstacles would disappear in favor of a sincere rapprochement.
Echoing this sentiment, the president of the parish council, Rigobert Dala, described this break as a "powerful act." According to him, in the difficult context Burkina Faso is experiencing, such initiatives are essential to strengthening the social fabric at the grassroots level.
As for Imam Aboubacar Biyen, on behalf of the Muslim community, he expressed his gratitude to the authorities and partners. "This shows that we can live in unity. That is exactly what Burkina Faso needs today," he stressed.
Presiding over the ceremony, the High Commissioner of Sissili Province, Tewende Isaac Sia, said he was honored by this initiative born from the will of the youth. "This is an opportunity to demonstrate our solidarity and show the unity that exists in Sissili," he declared.
The province's top official also commended the leadership of the organizers before inviting the population to perpetuate this spirit of sharing beyond the fasting season. "May these prayers contribute to restoring peace to our Faso and calming hearts," he concluded.
The evening, marked by fervor and conviviality, ended with collective prayers and fraternal greetings, reaffirming Leo's status as a model of peaceful coexistence.
