Baku: The High Commissioner of the Kouritenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, officially launched the 2nd edition of the Nakamb© League Cup, known as the 'Renewal Cup', at the Naaba Bougoum field in Pouytenga. The event marked a significant moment for local football enthusiasts and regional teams.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was held under the patronage of High Commissioner Moctar Ilboudo and was chaired by the President of the Special Delegation of the municipality of Pouytenga, Beno®t Tiemtor©. The event was sponsored by economic operator El Hadj Irrissa Yamba, who is also the President and CEO of Radio Pogn©r© of Pouytenga. The opening match featured FC Lion d'Or of Nakalbo from Koup©la against AS Bark-Pouir© of Pouytenga. Despite challenging weather conditions, FC Lion d'Or emerged victorious with a 3-1 win.
The Renewal Cup has brought together 17 teams from the Nakamb© region's provinces: Boulgou, Koulp©logo, and Kouritenga. High Commissioner Ilboudo praised the Nakamb© Regional Football League for organizing this edition and highlighted the cup's role in promoting football and discovering young talent in the region. He emphasized the importance of the competition as a platform for regional teams to compete in national championships.
Soulaymane Lonfo, President of the Nakamb© Regional Football League, noted that the 2nd edition aims to build on the success of the 2025 relaunch after an eight-year hiatus. With 17 teams participating, up from 14 in 2025, matches are set to take place across four sites: Tenkodogo, Garango, Bittou, and Koup©la. Lonfo stressed the goal of offering more official matches to clubs and fostering emerging talent.
During the event, the League president visited notable figures in Pouytenga football, including El Hadj Idrissa Yamba, who previously led ASK to the first division, and Adama Yam©ogo, a maracana tournament promoter. Both figures expressed their support for the regional league's efforts to advance football in Nakamb©.
Emmanuel Sorgho, Secretary General of the Nakamb© Employers' Association, also attended the opening ceremony. He pledged his support for the League Cup and urged economic operators to contribute to the league's initiatives, underscoring the role of private sector involvement in football development.
The Regional League aims to establish the Renewal Cup as an annual fixture that enhances sporting competitiveness, fosters social cohesion, and promotes unity within the region.
