Resumption of STAF Transport Activities in Tchriba Brings Relief to Local Population

Mouhoun: The population of Tchriba welcomed with relief the resumption of activities of the Aor¨ma and Brothers Transport Company (STAF), which took place on March 10, 2026, after more than three weeks of suspension.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a decree issued on February 12, 2026, ordered the suspension of the company's road transport activities from February 16 due to several observed breaches, including violations of the highway code and failure to respect the speed limit.

At the time, the decision sparked various reactions. While some feared the economic and social consequences of such a measure, others welcomed the authorities' initiative, hoping it would help strengthen discipline in the transport sector. After a 21-day shutdown, a new order from the authorities of the Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility authorized the resumption of the company's activities. On March 10, 2026, the arrival of the first STAF bus at Tchriba station was greeted with enthusiasm by street vendors, station staff, and passengers.

According to Fatim Traor, a passenger from Ouagadougou, the suspension of STAF's activities severely disrupted passenger transport. She explained that other companies were struggling to cope with the influx of customers, often causing long waits for them. Abdoul Razak Oudraogo, an agent in the mail service, expressed similar satisfaction, indicating that the bus service stoppage had caused numerous delays in the delivery of correspondence.

For Minata Traor, a sesame seller, the resumption of activities also represents a relief. She stressed that STAF buses constitute an important market for traders, sometimes allowing them to sell 1,500 to 2,500 CFA francs worth of goods in a single stop. The head of the Tchriba station, Souleman Dissa, explained that during the suspension period, station staff encountered difficulties in finding places for travelers, as other companies often arrived already full. However, Mr. Dissa acknowledged that the suspension decision was necessary in light of the increasing number of accidents and the dangerous behavior of some drivers.

"This decision is a reminder that no one is indispensable," he stated, while emphasizing the importance of preserving human life. In the city, many residents welcome both the resumption of STAF's activities and the firmness of the authorities. However, some are calling on the ministry in charge of transport to strengthen regular checks in transport companies in order to prevent tragedies rather than reacting to them after the fact.
