Ro Community Recreation Event Celebrates Academic and Athletic Achievements

Ouagadougou: The fifth edition of the Ro community recreation event concluded on Saturday, July 25, with a ceremony that honored the top-performing students and celebrated the Flamme Verte team's victory in the football tournament.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Ro community recreation activities, initiated in 2021, feature four main events: football, traditional wrestling, women's cycling race, and academic excellence. The initiative aims to enhance social cohesion by uniting different generations around shared values.

Norbert Bationo, the chairman of the organizing committee, highlighted that these activities serve as platforms for educating young people about communal living and highlighting local talent. He emphasized the cultural significance of traditional wrestling and the initiative's role in fostering values like solidarity, merit, and respect for traditions.

The organizing court, situated in sector 3 of Ro, serves over 120 households and numerous young people, creating a need for initiatives that promote development and civic education. Significant prizes were awarded to winners in various competitions. The football champions received 150,000 FCFA, a trophy, jerseys, balls, and medals, while other participating teams were also rewarded.

Traditional wrestling recognized winners across age categories ranging from 7 to 32 years, with prizes up to 75,000 FCFA for seniors and 15,000 FCFA for younger participants to encourage future involvement. In the women's cycling race, the top two competitors each won a bike, and the third and fourth places received 25,000 FCFA and 15,000 FCFA, respectively.

Academic excellence was celebrated by awarding the top two students in each class from first to twelfth grade. The highest achievers in both primary and secondary schools each received a bicycle.

Sbastien Bationo, who sponsored the football component for the third year, praised the initiative driven by the local community. He expressed commitment to supporting the event's growth and longevity, noting its increasing visibility.

The football final saw Flamme Verte, in yellow, defeat Sinkou FC, in white, with a 1-0 victory thanks to a first-half goal. This concluded a fifth edition focused on community spirit, excellence, and the promotion of socio-cultural values.
