Royal Theatre of Rabat Ushers in New Cultural Era with Inaugural Performance

Morocco: The Royal Theatre of Rabat, a symbol of the renewal and emergence of the capital of Morocco, began its activities on Wednesday with a performance attended by Princesses Lalla Khadija, Lalla Meryem, and Lalla Hasnaa, accompanied by Brigitte Macron. At the beginning of the show, a film was shown about the Royal Theatre, an institution that symbolizes the cultural and artistic renewal of Rabat and reflects the cultural dynamic that Morocco is experiencing under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, promoting a modernist approach to Moroccan art, with all that follows in terms of enhancing creative capacities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this unique architectural and urban emblem will allow Rabat to rise to the rank of major international cultural destinations under the visionary impetus of King Mohammed VI and the Kingdom to strengthen its vocation as a land of intercultural dialogue, civilizational interaction, and affirmation of universal values and ideals. After the performance of the national anthem by the orchestra and choir, the audience was invited to an exceptional musical moment, featuring soloist Marouan Benabdallah in a repertoire of classical music, mezzo-soprano Ahlima Mhamdi in great opera arias, Samira Kadiri in an interpretation of the Arab-Andalusian heritage, and Driss El Maloumi, composer and oud player, through a contemporary creation inspired by Moroccan sounds.

Thanks to this program exclusively featuring Moroccan artists, the guests witnessed an artistic and human adventure where composers, soloists, singers, choristers, conductors, and musicians came together to celebrate the richness, excellence, and diversity of the national artistic scene, creative and open to different global musical expressions. Tchaikovsky's concerto and arias by Bizet and Verdi are juxtaposed with Andalusian themes and a contemporary Moroccan creation, in a dialogue between the universal repertoire and the national heritage.

To celebrate this historic moment, an exceptional collaboration took place for the first time: that of the Moroccan Philharmonic Orchestra, which is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary, and the Royal Symphony Orchestra, which is celebrating 20 years of existence. United on the same stage, under the direction of Dina Bensad, 76 musicians and 40 choristers joined their talents in a shared artistic endeavor. Located in the heart of the Bouregreg Valley, in continuity with the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Royal Theatre of Rabat stands, alongside the Mohammed VI Tower, as a symbol of the renewal and emergence of the capital of the Kingdom, in line with the integrated development program of the city of Rabat "Rabat City of Lights, Moroccan capital of culture", initiated under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, who made culture a pillar of the development and progress of the Kingdom.
