Sahel Students Return to School Highlighting Educational Continuity

Sahel: Schoolchildren and pupils in the Sahel region returned to school this Wednesday, October 1, 2025. The governor of the region, Mr. Abdoul Karim Zongo, marked this return to school with a visit to Dori C primary school, accompanied by the constituted bodies, teachers, educational supervisors, and parents of students.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional director of preschool, primary, and non-formal education in the Sahel, Mr. Elhadji Boubacar, stated that the start of the 2025-2026 school year is focused on educational continuity. He reaffirmed the commitment of the stakeholders to continue and strengthen educational work in the region, welcoming the constant support of the administrative authorities, partners, and the educational community.

He also mentioned that the region is committed to educational reforms, with educational supervisors and teachers now equipped to meet the challenges. Governor Abdoul Karim Zongo emphasized his role in encouraging and motivating students, teachers, and educational supervisors, while recalling the difficult security context in which schools operate in the region.

Governor Zongo urged teachers to instill civic and citizenship values in students, such as patriotism, discipline, integrity, and living together, which he noted as essential for building a more resilient and united society. Academically, the Sahel region recorded notable results in school examinations in 2025, with a success rate of 88.58% in the Primary School Certificate (CEP), 45.78% in the First Cycle School Certificate (BEPC), 59.68% in the Professional Studies Certificate (BEP), and 67.40% in the Baccalaureate.

The governor expressed that these performances provide a solid foundation that must be consolidated. “I urge all stakeholders to raise the region’s flag even higher,” he said. In response, teachers and students affirmed their understanding of their responsibilities and committed to meeting the challenges of the new school year.

The 2025-2026 school year in the Sahel is marked by two key themes: educational continuity and resilience in the face of security challenges. Authorities, teachers, parents, and students are determined to combine their efforts to maintain the current momentum and improve academic performance in the region.
