Dori: Women in the Liptako region made important commitments to peace, economic empowerment, and children's education on Sunday in Dori, during the commemorative meeting for the 169th International Women's Day.
According to Burkina Information Agency, through MP Sabine Compaor©/Ou©draogo, they announced the establishment of a network of 200 women community mediators to contribute to conflict prevention and reconciliation. The participants also pledged to educate 10,000 children about the culture of peace, tolerance, and living together.
In the economic field, they expressed their ambition to create 500 income-generating activities (IGAs) in order to strengthen their financial autonomy and improve the living conditions of families. To achieve this, they sought financial support through loans ranging from 500,000 to 2,000,000 FCFA intended to support women's entrepreneurial initiatives.
During the ceremony, three main grievances were expressed: respect for the minimum quota of 30% representation of women in local bodies, strengthening of economic support for women's initiatives, and intensification of the fight against gender-based violence. Present at the ceremony, the governor of the Liptako region, Abdoul Karim Zongo, praised the commitment of the women and called on all stakeholders to support them in achieving their goals.
"Burkina Faso cannot recover without women, the Sahel cannot rebuild itself without women, and Liptako cannot prosper without women," he said. Through these commitments, the women of the Sahel have reaffirmed their willingness to actively contribute to peace, social cohesion, and the development of their region.
