Saudi Arabia to Host 25th Asian Physics Olympiad in 2025

Ouagadougou: 29 countries gather in Dhahran for the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad on the campus of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) from May 4 to 12, 2025. The event will see the participation of 240 students from across the continent.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this prestigious event is organized under the auspices of the Saudi Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Mawhiba Foundation for Giving and Creativity, and exclusively sponsored by Saudi Aramco. It signifies a significant stride in the Kingdom's efforts to foster scientific excellence.

This will be the second international science Olympiad hosted by Saudi Arabia, following the successful International Chemistry Olympiad in 2024. The Asian Physics Olympiad will challenge high school students in two rigorous events: one theoretical and one experimental, each lasting five hours, adhering to the standards set by the Olympiad's international council.

Participants will not only engage in competitive events but will also explore Saudi heritage through educational visits and cultural activities. These activities aim to enrich their experience beyond the academic framework.

The Asian Physics Olympiad, established in 1999 in Indonesia, stands as one of the most prestigious competitions for secondary science students. It is reserved for countries with notable achievements in the International Physics Olympiad. Saudi Arabia has participated since 2012, earning 16 medals and awards to date.

The Kingdom employs a rigorous selection process for its candidates, involving training courses and intensive assessments. This approach reflects a broader strategy to identify, train, and support scientific talent nationwide.

Saudi Arabia has achieved 864 international distinctions in various global competitions, underlining its ambition to be a key player in science and innovation on the world stage.
