Houndé:More than 39,000 children aged 5 to 14 are being targeted in a schistosomiasis prevention campaign in the Houndé health district. The campaign, scheduled from October 26 to 31, is part of a mass treatment initiative led by the High Commissioner of Tuy, Issiaka Segda, and is being conducted across 14 health facilities in the Houndé commune.

According to Burkina Information Agency, an advocacy meeting was held on October 26, 2026, bringing together administrative, health, educational, religious, and traditional authorities. Wendpouré Ouédraogo, head of the Center for Health Information and Epidemiological Surveillance (CISSE), explained that schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease transmitted through contact with infested freshwater, primarily affecting children and leading to complications such as anemia, growth retardation, and various organ-related issues.

The campaign utilizes praziquantel for treatment, with doses determined by the child's height. The Houndé district achieved a 109% coverage rate among children by 2025. High Commissioner Issiaka Segda urged stakeholders, including parents and community leaders, to support the initiative, emphasizing the administration's ongoing commitment to the campaign's success.
