Sapouy/ziro: Schoolchildren were encouraged to embrace civic and patriotic values during the official launch of the Civic and Patriotic Education (ECP) activities at the provincial high school of Sapouy. This government initiative aims to strengthen these values among students.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by Saba Zorome, the High Commissioner of the Ziro province. Important attendees included the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the commune of Sapouy, provincial administrative authorities, and several heads of services. The provincial director of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training of Ziro welcomed the program, expressing hopes for its success and urging students to adopt the values of civic-mindedness, patriotism, and civic responsibility.
High Commissioner Saba Zorome emphasized the national context of the initiative, highlighting the socio-economic crisis Burkina Faso has faced over the past decade due to insecurity, which has eroded civic and patriotic values. He pointed out that the country's leadership, led by President Captain Ibrahim Traore, has responded with several measures, including National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation and the patriotic immersion of students.
Encouraged by early results, the government has expanded efforts with the implementation of Civic and Patriotic Guidance for intermediate students. This initiative aims to bolster civic-mindedness, discipline, social cohesion, and unity among school youth.
The High Commissioner noted that the ECP will span five weeks, taking place in schools with theoretical and practical components, supported by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and educational actors. Mr. Zorome applauded the dedication of teachers and security forces in ensuring the success of this pilot phase, urging students to seize the opportunity, expressing optimism for Burkina Faso's future.
This pilot phase of Civic and Patriotic Education involves 17 schools, comprising a total of 6,039 students across 15 sites within the Ziro province.
