Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention Campaign Targets Young Children in Houet

Houet: The seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) campaign began on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in the commune of Peni and surrounding villages. Until June 28, health workers will conduct home visits to administer the medication free of charge to children aged 3 to 59 months, who are most at risk of malaria.According to Burkina Information Agency, Inoussa Ouédraogo, head of the Péni Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS), stated that the campaign launch is proceeding smoothly with no incidents or refusals reported. This intervention aims to reduce malaria cases, prevent severe forms of the disease, and decrease deaths among young children during the rainy season.During their visits, health teams will not limit themselves to administering medication. They will also raise awareness among households about prevention practices, including the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, eliminating stagnant water, and adhering to the children's vaccination schedule.Major Ouédraogo emphasized that all services o ffered in this campaign are free. He urged parents, especially mothers, to welcome health workers and cooperate so that all children benefit from this intervention.The campaign also includes screening for malnutrition to detect children requiring nutritional support early.From Péni-ville to the village of Saki, residents welcomed this initiative. Aminata Sidibé expressed that the campaign will help protect children's health, allowing mothers to focus on their activities peacefully.In addition to mobile teams in the field, a fixed team is installed at the CSPS of Péni to ensure care for children brought directly to the health center.
