Leo:Nearly two tons of prohibited and unregistered pharmaceutical products have been seized from a mafia network during Operation "WIBGA 3," conducted this September. The confiscated items, including dangerous psychotropic substances and common medications stored improperly, are estimated to be worth over 10 million CFA francs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation unfolded at the Central Police Station in Leo, revealing impressive stacks of cardboard boxes, multicolored bags, and hundreds of vials. This significant seizure highlights the law enforcement's commitment to combating public health threats and insecurity.
Among the seized drugs were destructive substances like Tramadol, amphetamines, stimulants of the "Kings" brand, and various aphrodisiacs. The clandestine network also distributed antibiotics, painkillers, and vitamins without regard for health and safety standards. The operation recovered over 15,000 blister packs of tablets, 742 cans and bottles of foreign products, 1,500 boxes of ointments, 160 sachets of powder, 268 boxes of vitamins, and 800 ready-to-distribute packages.
The success of the operation is attributed to a collaborative effort between security forces and local residents. The National Police commended the community for their crucial alerts and emphasized the dangers of purchasing drugs from unlicensed sources. They urged the public to use only licensed pharmacies and healthcare facilities and to report any suspicious activities through toll-free numbers 17, 16, or 1010.
