Senegal: Bassirou Faye announces electoral and judicial reforms

President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye announced on Wednesday, reforms in particular of the electoral system and the judicial system.

‘I will convene broad consultations with the political class and civil society on the reform of the electoral system, in particular the replacement of the CENA by an Independent National Electoral Commission with a strengthening of its means of operation, the rationalization of the number of political parties, the registration on the electoral register concomitantly with the issuance of the national identity card” indicated Wednesday March 3, 2024 the Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye in his address to the Nation on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the country’s accession to national sovereignty.

For President Faye, the reforms will also affect the area of ??justice.

‘To restore the image of justice and reconcile it with the people for whom it is rendered, I intend to organize meetings bringing together the professions of the profession to identify p
ossible solutions to the problems of justice,’ he added.

Elected in the first round on March 22 by a score of 54.28% of the votes cast, the breakaway candidate Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Fall was inaugurated into office on Tuesday April 2, 2024, thus becoming the 5th president of the Republic of Senegal.
