Ouagadougou: The Secretary General of the Sahel region, Auguste Kinda, chaired the third session of the regional consultation framework on securing and stabilizing the Ouagadougou-Kaya-Dori-Djibo axis on Tuesday in Dori. This statutory meeting brought together representatives of the administration, technical and financial partners, as well as local organizations, to discuss the challenges of stabilizing and recovering the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional director of Economy and Planning for the Sahel, Harouna Kabore, stated that the session aims to present the activities planned to support the security and development of the Ouagadougou-Kaya-Dori-Djibo (OKDD) axis, a vital corridor for economic and social exchanges. Among the key actions, Mr. Kabore cited the construction of an airfield in Dori, a strategic infrastructure for opening up air access to the Sahel and improving safe mobility.
The implementation of economic and social resilience activities for vulnerable populations is also among the priorities. This includes support for local economic recovery, strengthening livelihoods, and social protection in a context marked by insecurity and population displacement. Furthermore, the construction and rehabilitation of urban infrastructure should improve the living environment and support the dynamics of territorial development.
Present at the meeting, the representative of the European Union ambassador to Burkina Faso, Marc Duponcel, welcomed the regional initiatives and reaffirmed his institution's commitment to supporting national stabilization and development efforts. He noted that the European Union is funding several ongoing projects in the Sahel and encouraged the continuation of the strong partnership established with regional authorities. He stated that the effectiveness of this partnership demonstrates the shared commitment to improving the living conditions of populations affected by the crisis.
The Secretary General of the region, Auguste Kinda, recalled that the regional consultation framework, created on April 22, 2011, constitutes a space for exchanges, training and harmonization of development approaches between the different actors. He expressed his gratitude to the technical and financial partners for their continued efforts to strengthen the resilience and well-being of the people of the Sahel.
By bringing together stakeholders around the priorities of stabilizing the Ouagadougou-Kaya-Dori-Djibo axis and socio-economic recovery, the third session of the regional consultation framework confirms the collective will to support the Sahel towards greater security, cohesion and sustainable development.
