Ouagadougou:Preparations for the 18th edition of the Ouagadougou International Arts and Crafts Fair (SIAO) are reported to be 90% complete, as announced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, Serge Gnaniodem Poda. The biennial event, expected to draw approximately 800,000 visitors, is set to open in three days under the patronage of the Head of State.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Poda provided these updates following an evaluation meeting with the National Organizing Committee. He highlighted that the stands are set up, and artisans are beginning to transport their products in preparation for the event. The minister urged committee heads to enhance the coordination of their activities and conduct daily debriefing sessions to address any issues promptly.
The upcoming edition anticipates the participation of between 500 to 600 professional buyers and exhibitors from about fifty countries. Key innovations include the refurbishment of pavilions and buildings to improve conditions for exhibitors and visitors. The fair will feature approximately 700 to 750 air-conditioned booths across several pavilions, along with 100 open-air booths for showcasing handcrafted products.
Information points, known as "I points," will be installed in each pavilion to assist visitors and exhibitors. Additionally, a space will be dedicated to guest countries of honor, and a stand for the Confederation of Sahel States will allow Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to present their artisanal products.
A new "e-SIAO" digital system will enable visitors to purchase badges and entry tickets online, aimed at reducing entrance queues. The minister emphasized the fair's role in promoting artisanal products, cultural heritage, and Burkinabe identity, urging the organizing committee to ensure the success of this edition by focusing on hospitality, security, and visitor guidance.
