Sidwaya Houet Marathon to Revive Competitive Running in Bobo-Dioulasso

Bobo-dioulasso: The city is preparing to host the first edition of the Houet de Sidwaya Marathon on Saturday, November 8, 2025, an initiative that marks the return of this sport to the city of Sya after several years of absence. The announcement was made at a press conference held this Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by the organizing committee.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the main speaker, Moussa Congo, Commercial and Marketing Director of Sidwaya Publishing, stated that this new sporting competition aims to be a lasting event on the national calendar. "Our goal is to offer young people a competitive opportunity and contribute to the development of the next generation of athletes," he explained.

For this first edition, two closed circuits were selected: a 21-kilometer half-marathon and a 10-kilometer race. The courses, laid out along the city's main thoroughfares, were chosen to offer athletes optimal safety and visibility conditions.

The organizing committee announces the participation of approximately 1,500 athletes. The competition is reserved exclusively for national runners, while the 10-kilometer course will be open only to residents of the Guiriko region.

The best athletes will be rewarded with gadgets and financial envelopes ranging from 25,000 to 300,000 CFA francs, as encouragement and recognition for their performances.

The organizers are calling on the people of Bobo-Dioulasso to rally around this initiative and come support the runners. They hope to make this sporting event the rebirth of the marathon in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The start of the Sidwaya Houet Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., in front of the premises of the regional management of Sidwaya/Bobo Publishing.
