Sissili: The CCP discusses the situation of transhumance in the province

Léo, The first ordinary session of the Sissili Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in Léo under the presidency of the High Commissioner, Tewendé Isaac Sia. The discussions focused on the situation of transhumance in the province of Sissili.

Participants in the session of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) acquired knowledge on the situation of transhumance in Sissili, on the management and prevention of conflicts linked to the use of natural resources. This communication was presented by the provincial director in charge of animal resources in Sissili, Yaya Tabouré.

In his communication, it appears that the province of Sissili is a reception and transit zone for transhumants due to the relative abundance of natural resources and its proximity to Ghana.

However, for some time now, these resources have been subject to strong anthropogenic pressure and the harmful effects of climate change.

According to Mr. Tabouré, we are then witnessing the anarchic occupation of pastoral spaces in the province such as cattle tracks, grazing areas and pastoral areas. “This situation often causes conflicts between stakeholders and requires actions to be taken to promote peace and social cohesion,” he stressed.

As a reminder, the provincial directorate of animal resources has counted around 52 land conflicts in the province of Sissili in 2022. These land conflicts are linked to damage to fields, obstruction of livestock trails, access to the point of water, theft and slaughter of animals.

Participants were also equipped with tools for monitoring transhumance, the system for monitoring transhumance movements set up by the “Dinadane” help project and national and sub-regional texts regulating national and cross-border transhumance.

The participants also made recommendations. This involves raising awareness among stakeholders to obtain transhumance documents, promoting feeder cultivation, strengthening community dialogue between Ghana and Burkina Faso and securing pastoral areas.

For Mr. Sia, the CCP is a framework for consultation and guidance in matters of transhumance. Its mission is to provide support to the province in analyzing the situation, developing and implementing the strategy with a view to the organization and proper conduct of transhumance and all related activities. .

The High Commissioner of the Sissili province expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders in the provincial consultation framework.
