Sixth-Grade Girls’ Team Triumphs in Principal’s Cup Inaugural Edition

Kenedougou: The girls’ team from the sixth grade of the Loropeni Departmental High School (LDL) won the final of the first edition of the Principal’s Cup on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, defeating the second grade team 3-1 on penalties. Organised on the school grounds, this competition marked a significant shift with the introduction of the women’s component, which had previously been absent from this sporting event.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the principal of LDL, Alphonse Pale, stated that the initiative aims to offer girls a platform to express their sporting talents and to enhance their involvement in school activities. “For several years, this competition was only for boys. This year, we wanted to include girls in order to take both genders into account within the high school,” he explained.

Mr. Pale also highlighted that the competition seeks to promote team spirit, solidarity, and discipline within the institution. The event concluded with numerous teachers and students gathering to support the teams in a congenial atmosphere.

At the end of the match, the victorious team received a trophy along with an envelope containing 20,000 FCFA, while the runner-up team was awarded 15,000 FCFA.
