Dori: Muslim worshippers in Dori celebrated Eid al-Adha, commonly known as Tabaski, in an atmosphere of religious fervor, contemplation, and prayers for peace in Burkina Faso. In Dori, the capital of the Liptako region, Muslims mobilized massively at several prayer sites, including the provincial grounds, the grounds of the Dori A school, and the Wendou grounds, to perform the great prayer marking this important Islamic holiday.
According to Burkina Information Agency, at the provincial grounds in Dori, the prayer was led by Imam Yaya Mamoudou Ciss©, in the presence of administrative, customary, and religious authorities. The imam led two units of prayer (rakat) before delivering his sermon to the many faithful who had come for the occasion. In his sermon, Imam Yaya Mamoudou Ciss© recalled the spiritual significance of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the submission of the prophet Abraham to God. He explained that this festival recalls the ordeal during which God asked the prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son as a sign of obedience, before replacing the child with a ram at the time of the sacrifice. For the imam, this event symbolizes faith, obedience, sacrifice, and absolute trust in God.
Imam Ciss© also stressed the criteria and characteristics of animals intended for sacrifice, urging the faithful to respect the religious prescriptions related to the sacrifice. He indicated that he had offered prayers for the return of peace, understanding, unity, and social cohesion to Burkina Faso. Present at the ceremony, the governor of the Liptako and Soum region, Abdoul Karim Zongo, wished a happy holiday to the Muslim faithful. He commended the efforts made by the people in the search for peace and security, before inviting them to strengthen their collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces for a rapid return to stability and tranquility.
The Catholic Church demonstrated its closeness to the Muslim faithful of Dori through the presence of the representative of the Apostolic Administrator of Dori, Monsignor Th©ophile Nar©, at the celebration. He confided that he had come to show Muslim faithful the friendship, solidarity, and closeness of the Catholic Church on this festive day. The celebration of Tabaski 2026 in Dori was marked by a strong mobilization of Muslim faithful, messages of peace and social cohesion, as well as a spirit of fraternity between religious communities, in a national context marked by the quest for security and stability.
