Sourou: The Sourou Provincial Women's Coordination organized a popular cross-country race in Tougan on Saturday, March 7, 2026, as a prelude to the commemoration of March 8, International Women's Day. The event was launched by Ouigou Tiendrebeogo, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Tougan municipality, representing Desire Badolo, High Commissioner of the Sourou Province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this sporting activity mobilized a large number of women from the town of Tougan, who came to mark their commitment to the commemorative activities of this day dedicated to women's rights.
Christine Yelemou/Toe, the provincial coordinator of women in Sourou, stated that this popular cross-country race is part of the activities programmed by the coordination to celebrate International Women's Day. 'This year, we are celebrating March 8th differently, in accordance with the motto of the Minister in charge of Women. We have therefore initiated several activities, including this popular cross-country race, in order to invite women to reflect on their rights rather than limiting themselves to festive events,' she explained.
Following the cross-country race, the provincial women's coordination committee donated a ton of cement to the Faso Mªbo initiative. According to Ms. Yelemou/Toe, this was a symbolic gesture intended to demonstrate the desire of the women of the province to contribute to the construction and development of Sourou in particular and Burkina Faso in general.
The president of the special delegation of Tougan, on behalf of the High Commissioner of the province, welcomed the initiatives of the provincial coordination of women of Sourou on the occasion of the celebration of March 8, 2026. According to him, these activities reflect a real change in mentality and a better understanding of the true meaning of this day, long perceived as a simple celebration. He also wished, in advance, a happy celebration of March 8, 2026, to all the women of the Sourou province and the whole world.
