Bougouriba: The Dibougou departmental women's coordination organized a sports walk on Wednesday through the main arteries of the city, in preparation for the celebration of International Women's Day scheduled for March 8.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was placed under the national theme "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: what contribution of women and girls to the promotion of living together?" The activity successfully mobilized several social strata who came to demonstrate their commitment to social cohesion and the promotion of health through sport.
Starting from the Dibougou town hall, the caravan traveled through several parts of the city, including the central market, the roundabout of the Idea, and the sports field, before returning to its starting point. Dressed mostly in sportswear, participants covered a distance of more than a kilometer in a friendly atmosphere, punctuated by songs, slogans, and awareness messages in favor of peace and living together.
According to the organizers, the initiative aims to strengthen cohesion among women, promote their physical well-being, and encourage their contribution to building a more united society. The departmental coordinator for women in Dibougou, Donloira Lydie Oudraogo/Mda, expressed satisfaction with the success of the activity and the strong mobilization recorded. She noted the presence of various categories of women, including members of associations and individual participants, and highlighted the support from local authorities.
Present alongside the women, the Secretary General of the Dibougou Town Hall, Moussa Coulibaly, representing the President of the Special Municipal Delegation, praised the mobilization and commitment of women to the socio-economic development of the municipality. He observed a positive evolution in the celebration of March 8th, noting a shift from festivities to more meaningful activities like sports and awareness-raising.
The brisk walk concluded with an aerobics session. Participant Sr Lucie Kam emphasized the health benefits of the activity, stating that "sport for all helps to stay in shape and prevent certain diseases." Men also participated in the march, accompanying their mothers, wives, and sisters in the event.
Several other activities are planned before March 8, including free cervical cancer screening sessions and sanitation operations in different sectors of the city.
