Silly: The village of Bredie, in the municipality of Silly, witnessed the official launch of the Sports, Cultural and Leisure Activities at the Primary School (ASCLEP) of the Basic Education District (CEB) of Silly. The event, held under the theme 'Sport and culture in primary school, factors of social cohesion and affirmation of identity', aims to enhance student development and safeguard cultural values.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch ceremony was presided over by Gervais Some, the head of sports and cultural activities at the Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF) of Sissili. He represented the provincial director, Soungalo Traore, and was accompanied by Julcarnine Napon, the head of the Silly Basic Education District (CCEB), along with educational supervisors, teachers, and local residents.
CCEB Napon emphasized the importance of sport and culture in education, noting that activities like play are crucial for a child's well-being. He pointed out that these activities counterbalance a school system often perceived as overly theoretical and cultivate essential values like solidarity, team spirit, and tolerance.
Gervais Some praised the organizers for the event, which he believes sets a positive tone for the school year in the CEB of Silly. He urged stakeholders to focus on the holistic development of children, despite any organizational challenges.
Kont¨me Zongo, Secretary General of ASCLEP of the CEB, noted that while enthusiasm is high, challenges such as long distances to competition venues persist. However, he acknowledged the support of CEB inspectors in overcoming financial and material hurdles.
The day featured an opening football match between Bredie A and Bredie B schools, with Bredie A winning 2-0. Besides football, activities will include performing arts like theatre, recitals, and traditional dance, vital for nurturing talent and preserving Burkina Faso's cultural heritage.
The CCEB called on school principals to actively engage in the program, reiterating that "everyone benefits" in education. It also expressed gratitude to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) for their role in restoring peace to the Silly commune.
