Stallions of Burkina Faso Aim to Bounce Back from AFCON 2025 Setback with New Coach

Ouagadougou: Present in Ouagadougou as part of the FIFA window, the Stallions of Burkina Faso want to forget the misadventure of the CAN Morocco 2025 and get back to work from the double confrontation against the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau, on March 28 and 31 at the August 4 Stadium.

According to Burkina Information Agency, on the morning of March 23, the new Stallions coach, Amir Abdou, held a press conference to explain his first squad for the two friendly matches against Guinea-Bissau. That evening, the Comorian coach took to the pitch at the Stade du 4 Aot with his players for their first training session. Only 7 of the 25 Stallions called up were present, but a sense of calm was evident on their faces.

'I would like to congratulate the coach for taking charge of the team. We went through some unpleasant moments during the last AFCON and we will try to move on quickly,' said Stallions vice-captain Herve Koffi, emphasizing that the current coach is coming at the right time.

Koffi added, 'We're returning home to play two matches. It's been a long time since we played friendly matches at home. I hope we can get good results so we can forget what happened in Morocco.'

The vice-captain, known as 'Black Cat', reassures that 'with the new staff, we will try to rebuild the group well. The coach will try to form a new group, build a new team. For our part, it is to make his task easy, by remaining disciplined above all and working hard to be able to achieve the objectives.'

For Stallions midfielder Mohamed Zougrana, the last AFCON was "full of teachings and lessons. It's an AFCON that will allow us to continue to progress. We really wanted to go far in this competition, but that's football, that's life."

The Stallions have their sights set on the World Cup and the AFCON trophy. With the new staff, the Burkinabe team's objective is clear: "it's to qualify for the World Cup and to win the African Cup. After that, if there are other things that work, we'll take them," said Herve Koffi.

Koffi, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the French Ligue 1 with Angers, stated, "the most important thing for me is to try to have the same performances as in Ligue 1, at the national team level. I pray to God that I can reproduce the same things at the national team level."

According to Mohamed Zougrana, "it is always a pleasure to rediscover the colors of the Nation, our dear homeland which is Burkina Faso, to fully enjoy and continue to look far ahead to the future. We always want to give the best of ourselves for our Nation."

Zougrana also noted that with the arrival of the new coach, the playing philosophy will change. "It's up to us to listen better to the instructions and continue to progress individually and collectively for the good of the nation."

Of the 25 players called up, 7 were present at the August 4th Stadium for Amir Abdou's first training session. These were Mohamed Zougrana, Dango Ouattara, Smaila Ouedraogo, Herve Koffi, Lohann Doucet, Jacques Pantoulou Diarra, and Ibrahim Bance. Burkina Faso will face Guinea Bissau in friendly matches on March 28th and 31st at the August 4th Stadium in Ouagadougou.
