Strengthening social cohesion in the East: The “PROFIL2” project presents its activities

The project to support the training and socio-economic integration of young rural people in the Eastern region (PROFILE 2) presented, on Friday July 28, 2023, in Fada N’ Gourma, the activities of its “Social cohesion” component.

The consortium of community organizations, made up of the Communication Network on Pastoralism (RECOPA), the Association for Research and Training in Agroecology (ARFA) and the Tin Tua Association, is promoting the social cohesion its hobbyhorse.

In fact, supported by the French non-governmental organization (NGO) Acting For Life, the three organizations are implementing the Project to support the training and socio-economic integration of young rural people in the Eastern region (PROFILE 2).

A project that gives pride of place to the theme of strengthening peace and social cohesion. Concretely, the consortium intends to carry out a series of activities which it presented to the actors on Friday, July 28, 2023, in Fada N’Gourma.

These activities include the organization of several training sessions in “active citizenship for social cohesion” for the benefit of young people and communities, support for initiatives aimed at strengthening coexistence between host populations and internally displaced persons ( IDPs) and support for community activities aimed at promoting endogenous conflict management and prevention mechanisms.

It is also planned to support the initiatives of the “Dimitras Clubs” and to support observatories for the prevention and management of conflicts as well as forums for dialogue made up of community leaders.

The spokesman for the consortium, Colado Maïga, who is also the eastern regional president of RECOPA, indicated that this vast program of activities contains the entire strategy of the project in terms of promoting social cohesion.

This is why, he continued, RECOPA and the two other associations have agreed to meet the actors to share with them this vision of PROFIL2 in terms of promoting social cohesion, but also to collect their suggestions and recommendations. for the successful implementation of activities.

The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Fada N’Gourma, Jérôme Idani, said that he rightly hoped that the actions of the three organizations could contribute significantly to the strengthening of social cohesion and the reconstruction of the peace in Gulmu.

The High Commissioner of the province of Gourma, Toussaint Meda, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the consortium of associations, but also to the French Development Agency (AFD) which finances the PROFIL2 project.

It should be noted that this project, lasting 3 years and implemented in 17 municipalities in the Eastern region, aims to “strengthen the economic resilience and social integration of young men and young women while promoting social cohesion within communities”.
