Strong Turnout at Ouazi CSPS Screening Day Focused on Disease Prevention

Boussouma: The Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS) in the village of Ouazi, within the commune of Boussouma, recently hosted an open day dedicated to the prevention of diseases, emphasizing the early diagnosis of precancerous lesions of the cervix and breasts. The event provided an opportunity for several hundred people to access free screenings and specialist consultations, underlining the significance of early health interventions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Garango health district spearheaded the initiative, attracting local residents seeking medical advice. The comprehensive program offered screenings for precancerous lesions, viral hepatitis, HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as checks for diabetes and high blood pressure. Additionally, general, pediatric, and ophthalmological consultations were available.

Major Palingwend© Ernest Nacoulma, head of the CSPS, reported that over 200 individuals received information about breast and cervical cancers. Specifically, 224 women underwent the IVA test, revealing 6 suspected cases, with 3 treated through thermocoagulation. Furthermore, HIV tests were conducted on 311 people, hepatitis B on 221, and syphilis on 306 individuals.

The examinations also uncovered 5 breast nodules, 30 instances of cervicitis, and 5 polyps. In terms of diabetes, 126 blood glucose tests were carried out, identifying 17 cases of hyperglycemia. Germain Kanzi©, the chief medical officer of the Garango health district, praised the participation of health workers, local authorities, and the community, expressing appreciation for the support received in organizing the event and stressing the necessity to enhance prevention efforts.

Saidou R©mi Guira, president of the special delegation of the commune of Boussouma, encouraged residents to engage in regular screenings and adhere to health workers' advice. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative, with Ms. Zenab Bambor©, a participant in the breast cancer screening, noting the positive impact on healthcare improvement.

The open day recorded 93 patients for general medicine consultations, 80 for ophthalmology, and 28 children for pediatric care. The event concluded with a reminder of the crucial role early detection plays in disease management.
