Douroula:Students from the Douroula departmental high school were recently educated on the importance of consuming local products and embracing civic values through conferences and debates. These events were part of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the discussions emphasized themes such as "Let's produce Burkinabe, let's consume Burkinabe our plate, our pride" and "Civic-mindedness, citizenship and patriotic commitment in schools." Presentations were given by Mahamoudou Toro, a history-geography and civic education teacher, and Florentin Traoré, the high school's principal.
Before the presentations, participants observed a minute of silence in tribute to Captain Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara, who was assassinated on October 15, 1987. Comrade Toro highlighted the significance of local production and consumption for economic sovereignty and the dignity of Burkinabè people. He encouraged students to prioritize local products, using the analogy, "The intelligent child pays for his mother's doughnuts," and cited countries like China, the United States, and India as examples of nations that have strengthened their economies through developing production capacities and infrastructure.
Headmaster Traoré discussed civic-mindedness, citizenship, and patriotic commitment, stressing their importance in student education and community building. He urged students to embody these values through respect for school regulations, teachers, classmates, and by demonstrating punctuality, solidarity, and active participation in school activities. He also emphasized respect for national symbols, particularly the flag, and called for discipline, tolerance, and environmental protection.
After the presentations, students engaged in discussions to deepen their understanding and committed to improving their behavior, aspiring to be model citizens aligned with the ideals of the Popular Progressive Revolution (PPR).
