Sunni Movement’s 10th Ordinary Congress Focuses on Peace Promotion Amid Challenges

Ouagadougou: The Sunni Movement of Burkina Faso (MSBF) opened its 10th ordinary congress on Friday to discuss its contribution to the promotion of peace in a context marked by major challenges.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the MSBF, El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, stated that the congress aims to present the activity report of the mandate, comply with the new law in force, and consider future prospects. Over three days, delegates will discuss the movement's role in promoting peace amidst security and humanitarian challenges.

The congress, themed "Contribution of the Sunni Movement to the consolidation of peace in a context of security and social challenges," was inaugurated by El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana in Ouagadougou. He emphasized the organization's commitment to building a prosperous Burkina Faso through concrete actions, which include the recognition of more than 370 primary schools, 10 secondary establishments, the operation of four health centers, blood donations, and substantial support for internally displaced persons and widows.

Cheick Ousmane Banc©, chairman of the congress organizing committee, acknowledged the months of work that led to the congress's successful organization, expressing gratitude towards the members of the organizing committee for their dedication.

Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), highlighted the potential of MSBF's religious leaders in promoting peace through their sermons, knowledge, and awareness campaigns. He noted the continuous prayers offered by religious communities for peace in Burkina Faso.

The Minister of State and Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Emile Zerbo, commended the MSBF for aligning with national efforts to reclaim peace and enhance social cohesion. He praised the movement's modern vision and commitment to governance and accountability principles, as evidenced by the regular renewal of its leadership every five years.

Founded in 1973, the MSBF continues to work towards promoting Islam and peace in Burkina Faso, distinguished by its structure, discipline, and consistency.
