Support for IDPs: Afro-descendants Stand Alongside Internally Displaced Persons at the Nomgana Site

Ouagadougou: A delegation of Afro-descendants visited the Nomgana site for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Oubri region on the afternoon of Thursday, November 6, 2025, to express their solidarity with these populations forced to flee their lands due to the security crisis.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the delegation was led by a team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, accompanied by regional authorities in charge of humanitarian action.

The visit aimed to allow this diaspora, staying in the Burkinabe capital, to see firsthand the living conditions of the residents of the Nomgana site and to show them African solidarity, as stated by Michel Somma, Director General of Burkinabe Abroad.

Speaking to the IDPs, Dr. Stella Jeffries, the representative of the Association of Descendants of Africans (ADDI), indicated that the donation, consisting of non-consumable materials and medical kits, reflects the compassion of the African diaspora towards all victims of terrorism.

In addition to the equipment, a spontaneous collection of 386,000 CFA francs was given to the IDPs. This act of solidarity was warmly welcomed by the beneficiaries. Their representative, Mr. Yobi Nagbila, indicated that these donations would help alleviate, even if only slightly, the suffering of the displaced people at the Nomgana site. He also thanked the donors and expressed his support for the authorities who are working tirelessly for the return of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their villages of origin.
