Tenkodogo:The Tenkodogo court has released two women, identified as AY and BB, who were accused of labeling others as witches. The decision was made due to insufficient evidence against them.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the prosecutor was the one who requested the release of the two women. During the court proceedings, AY defended herself by stating that she had committed no wrongdoing. The complainant also acknowledged that AY was not present at the time of the alleged incident, which stemmed from a past argument, and there was no clarity on her supposed actions. Consequently, the prosecutor found no basis for wrongdoing and advocated for her release.
In the case of BB, the court examined an audio message where someone was accused of witchcraft for allegedly making a child sick. The suspicion fell on BB due to past conflicts and circulating rumors, but no concrete evidence was available. BB denied involvement, claiming she neither recorded nor shared the message. The complainant admitted that they could not identify the voice in the audio. Given the uncertainty regarding the recording's origin, the prosecutor called for BB's release, citing reasonable doubt.
Despite the release, the prosecutor issued a stern warning to both women, cautioning them against engaging in similar actions in the future.
