Kourittenga: The final of the 5th edition of the "Koupla Open" karate tournament was held this Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the Koupla multi-sports complex. The competition brought together young karatekas from the U8, U10, U12, U14, and U16 categories.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a total of 30 prizes, including trophies, medals, school supplies, and jerseys, were awarded to the best participants. In the minime-cadet category, 14-year-old Fadel Kabor excelled by securing the first prize. Expressing satisfaction, Kabor credited his victory to diligent preparation, effective coaching, and personal efforts. He received a trophy, a medal, notebooks, pens, and an outfit, which he acknowledged would greatly assist him as a student. Kabor shared insights into his training regimen, emphasizing the importance of self-improvement when faced with stronger opponents.

Iliassou Wango, the promoter of the Koupla Open and master of the Koupla Open Karate Club, emphasized the tournament's goal to foster karate among young participants and provide a platform for their development. Wango noted significant improvements in the level of competition and achievements of the participants in this edition. He encouraged parents to continue supporting their children, highlighting the motivational impact of their presence at events.

Awa Nathalie Yy, the provincial director of Youth, Sports and Recreation of Kourittenga, commended the quality of guidance provided to the young karate practitioners. She observed that the demonstrations showcased the effective learning and dedication of the children, which reflect the seriousness of their training. Nathalie Yy also noted the growing popularity of karate in Kourittenga province, highlighting its role in promoting community spirit, social cohesion, self-control, and discipline among the youth.
