The 7th Provincial Day of Sports and Leisure in Gnagna Promotes Unity and Resilience Through Competition


Gnagna: The 7th edition of the Gnagna Provincial Sports and Recreation Day was held under the theme: ‘Strengthening resilience and social cohesion among the sons and daughters of Gnagna Province through sports and recreation.’ Presided over by the High Commissioner of the province, Jean Baptiste Bogo, the event brought together hundreds of participants this Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the multi-sports complex in Sector 2 of Bogand, for various sporting and recreational activities.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the province of Gnagna vibrated to the rhythm of sport and leisure thanks to this day organized by the provincial directorate in charge of sports and leisure. Placed under the banner of cohesion and social resilience, it brought together young people, women, and men around friendly competitions in a festive atmosphere. The event aimed to promote solidarity, peace, and living together in a difficult security context.



Presiding over the opening ceremony, the High Commissioner praised a “welcome initiative” which, according to him, allows people to come together and share moments of fraternity, despite a context marked by insecurity and terrorism. Several disciplines enlivened the day: Aztec, war, foosball, scrabble, ptanque, and ludo, to name just a few. Each game had its champions. The four finalists in each discipline went home with cash prizes, while the top two also received medals.



On this occasion, basic education districts, secondary schools, football clubs, and sports sites for all received sports equipment. A civil-military match, marked by fair play, particularly amazed the public, who were swept away by the atmosphere. Visibly moved, the winners expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the provincial management, which provided them with a setting for relaxation and competition.



“Thanks to this day, we had the opportunity to play, to express ourselves, and to strengthen our bonds of friendship,” said one of the winners. The provincial director of sports and recreation, Albert Dakissaga, expressed his satisfaction with the mobilization of the population and the smooth running of the event. He thanked the provincial authorities and partners for their continued support.



Administrative, customary, and religious authorities also took part in this convivial day, demonstrating their commitment to living together. The date has already been set for the 8th edition, scheduled for 2026, with the hope of even more massive participation and a lasting return of peace throughout the province.
