The AES Roundabout in Nanom Inaugurated with Community Support

Boudry: The residents of Nanom, a village in the commune of Boudry, inaugurated an AES roundabout on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The roundabout was built thanks to the combined efforts of the village's sons and daughters in support of Captain Ibrahim Traore. The ceremony was presided over by His Majesty Naba Tanga II of Nedogo, represented by his Baloumnaba, with Boukary Zoungrana as vice-president. The Naba Simbdo of Nanom, the TikToker Rasmane Paale, known as "Paale Officiel," and Rasmane Simpore served as sponsors.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event began with the playing of the national anthem and a parade of the village women. It then featured numerous speeches interspersed with performances by musical artists. In his welcoming remarks, the chief of Nanom praised the community's mobilization and thanked the young people who initiated the construction of the monument, offering prayers for the Head of State to lead the country effectively.

The women's representative, Ms. Yvonne Tiemtore, outlined several of the women's concerns, including the construction of a Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS), the acquisition of mills, support for gardening, and the rehabilitation of the Koankin dam. Through a theatrical performance, the women illustrated the role of the roundabout as a space for meeting and sharing information about village and country life, and criticized the reluctance of some to participate in the initiative.

The representative of the religious communities blessed the work and called for social cohesion. The representative of the local community watch group, Salam Zoeringre, along with the representative of the youth of Nedogo, urged young people to maintain unity in order to contribute to the return of peace. The young people expressed their gratitude to Boukary Zoungrana, who kept his promise made during the inauguration of the Koankin roundabout by donating a multi-purpose mill to the women of that village.

The former mayor of Boudry, Djribril Zoeringre, encouraged young people to unite around a shared ideal of development. Rasmane Simpore, president of the Ganzourgou self-defense movement "koglweogo," emphasized that the roundabout is not a political issue but a common good, a symbol of unity. He clarified that the koglweogo, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and the citizen watch movements ("wayiyan") are voluntarily committed to defending the country's interests, without any ambition for power.

The patron, Paale Officiel, invited the people to support President Ibrahim Traore and to prioritize locally-based solutions to the challenges they face. He urged young people to organize themselves to address women's grievances without waiting for outside support. Responding to this appeal, Mahamadou de Malgsom, a son of Nedogo, promised a mill to the women of Nanom.

As for the provincial coordinator of citizen watch in Ganzourgou, Harouna Kabore, he praised the unity of the youth and called for a frank commitment alongside the head of state, while assuring that the grievances will reach the competent authorities. The chief of Nedogo expressed his satisfaction with the community's mobilization in support of Captain Ibrahim Traore.

Concluding the ceremony, Boukary Zoungrana, spokesperson for the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC), called on the residents of Nedogo's 57 villages to strengthen their unity. He encouraged them to find local solutions to concerns related to mills, garden fencing, and fertilizers. He also indicated that steps are being taken to rehabilitate the Koankin dam. He finally relayed the wish of the people to see the commune of Boudry, with its 86 villages, subdivided into at least 2 communes to facilitate the implementation of development actions.

The Nanom roundabout, a symbol of unity and the 6th of its kind in the municipality of Boudry, will now serve, according to its initiators, as a gathering place for young people, a place to share information and to monitor movements in the village to promote the search for solutions to local challenges.
