Ouagadougou: The agricultural Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of the commune of Binde carried out on Monday the spreading of fertilizer on their corn plants, in their field located in Kaibo Sud V7, and plan to sow part of it with cowpeas, in an atmosphere imbued with patriotism.
According to Burkina Information Agency, at the beginning of the agricultural campaign, agricultural producers had some concerns about the outcome of their production, due to an uneven emergence of corn after the first sowings. On an area of approximately 1.5 hectares dedicated to corn, several plantings had experienced poor germination. The growers then replaced the missing plants to increase the density of their plot.
A few weeks later, the evolution of the culture seems to restore confidence to the agricultural VDPs, who are now smiling and remain determined to carry out their production mission. 'We have applied first-phase fertilizer to the maize plants to promote their development,' explained Ousseni Sawadogo, the representative of the agricultural VDP in Binde.
According to him, the agricultural VDP acquired a total area of two hectares for this first production experience in the village of Kaibo Sud V7. 'However, part of the plot presents difficulties for growing maize. We have therefore decided to develop a plan B by growing cowpeas on an area estimated at half a hectare,' he said.
Mr. Sawadogo also indicated that the agricultural VDPs aim to acquire a larger area during the next campaign, in order to increase their production and contribute more to the dynamics of the agricultural revolution. He also reiterated their patriotic commitment and sent their greetings to the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, as well as to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries, Isma«l Sombie.
