Kourittenga: The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Burkina Faso, Erwin De Wendel, visited on Monday, April 14, 2025, the achievements of the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), in the regions of the Center-East and the Central Plateau, within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Belgium and Burkina Faso. The ambassador was received by the governor of the Centre-East region, Colonel Aboudou Karim Lamizana, along with administrative authorities. His visit included a tour of the Tenkodogo regional hospital, an innovation center, a composting unit managed by the NGO Ile de Paix and its partner ARFA, and a kiosk selling non-timber forest products in Koup©la.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the visit also featured presentations of video clips on the Dassui ceiling in the commune of Dialgaye and products from the Pouytenga biochar production unit. The governor of the Centre-East highlighted the significance of Enabel’s accomplishments and discussed with the ambassador the prospects for strengthening these initiatives. The governor expressed appreciation for Enabel’s alignment with the government’s action plan and called for continued support.
In the Central Plateau region, the ambassador visited the bafond site in the commune of Mogt©do. Noomwend© Abdoulaye Kanazo©, President of the Mogt©odo Special Delegation, expressed appreciation for Enabel’s commitment to developing the bafond, which aims to support food self-sufficiency. He emphasized the importance of fulfilling promises related to providing fertilizers and inputs to farmers. Additionally, the municipality has benefited from entrepreneurship training, infrastructure grants, and capacity building for local stakeholders.
Ambassador Erwin De Wendel expressed satisfaction with Enabel’s projects in both the Center-East region and Mogt©do. He emphasized the importance of the partnership between Belgium and Burkina Faso, stating that the development initiatives align with Burkina Faso’s guidelines, and Belgium is committed to supporting them. Enabel’s bilateral program in the Center-East region is scheduled to continue until 2027.
