The Governor Launches Tax Compliance Day in Banfora

Tannounyan: The governor of the Tannounyan region officially launched the Tax Compliance Day on Tuesday in Banfora. This initiative aims to raise awareness among public and private sector employees, as well as the general population, about the importance of paying taxes for the development of local communities and Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, several taxes are targeted by this awareness campaign. These include the residence tax (TR), the motor vehicle tax (TVM), the firearms tax, the property income tax, and the land tax.

The governor of the Tannounyan region, Patrice Y©y©, reiterated that these days, established by the Government of Burkina Faso, aim to encourage every citizen residing in the country or owning property to fulfill their tax obligations. He stated that paying taxes is a civic and patriotic act that directly contributes to financing the state and local government budgets.

The governor also highlighted the progress made in recent years in mobilizing tax revenue, with a notable increase in receipts. Indeed, the performance of the Directorate General of Taxes has seen sustained growth, reaching nearly 20% by 2025, with 1,370 billion francs collected in 2023, 1,493 billion in 2024, and 1,790 billion in 2025. These resources contribute in particular to financing the state budget, local authorities, and the patriotic support fund.

He emphasized that mobilizing domestic resources is a key pillar of the country's economic sovereignty. Paying taxes is a sign of being Burkinab¨ and actively participating in the development of one's community and region, he declared, while urging the population to adopt responsible tax compliance.

Mr. Y©y© called for civic engagement from all, reiterating that paying taxes remains essential for building a resilient, sovereign, and development-oriented Burkina Faso.

For Blahima Ouattara, the Regional Director of Taxes for Tannounyan, this day of exemplary tax compliance is first and foremost a call for responsibility among public servants. "We, as public servants, must set an example. For my part, I have already paid my taxes and I have instructed all my staff to also be up-to-date in order to encourage other citizens to fulfill their tax obligations," he stated.

Mr. Ouattara indicated that in the implementation of this initiative, the Regional Tax Directorate plans to conduct a broad awareness campaign in the various regional directorates and companies in the region to encourage public and private agents to update their tax obligations.

The regional tax director also appealed to the residents of the Tannounyan region to pay their taxes and cooperate with the tax authorities. He encouraged them to visit tax offices directly to obtain the necessary information, while warning them against unscrupulous individuals who might mislead citizens and charge them additional fees.

At the end of the ceremony, the top official of the Tannounyan region was the first to pay his taxes, followed by the administrative authorities of the region.
