Koulplogo/ouargaye: The Ouargaye health district launched the activities of the National Days of Larvicide Control on Saturday, August 8, 2026, through a community mobilization dedicated in particular to the identification and destruction of larval habitats.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony, held in front of the Medical Center with surgical unit (CMA) of Ouargaye, was presided over by the second vice-president of the Special Delegation of Ouargaye, Soul Fatimata Dabon, representing the High Commissioner of the province of Koulplogo.

Dr. Morou Nikiema, chief medical officer of the Ouargaye health district, explained the importance of this operation in preventing mosquito-borne diseases. He noted that mosquitoes are vectors of several diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, and yellow fever, which are major public health concerns.

According to Comrade Dr. Morou Nikiema, the destruction of larval habitats represents a relevant intervention to reduce the proliferation of mosquitoes and, consequently, contribute to reducing the burden of these diseases. He called on the population to become more involved in sanitation efforts and to adopt behaviors that limit the creation and maintenance of larval breeding grounds.

Representing the High Commissioner of Koulplogo, Comrade Soul Fatimata Dabon commended the youth for their mobilization in making this activity a success. She also congratulated the district's chief medical officer and all health workers for their commitment to disease prevention and control. She encouraged participants to maintain this momentum and to make the fight against vector-borne diseases a collective responsibility, before proceeding with the official launch of activities.

Following the launch, the participants, equipped with pickaxes and shovels, undertook sanitation actions, including clearing gutters and identifying and destroying larval habitats. Established by the Ministry of Health with the support of other ministerial sectors, the National Days of Larvicide Control include several visits during the rainy season.
