Toma: The High Commissioner of the Nayala province, Honore Frederic Pare, launched the literacy campaign in the national language San on Monday in Toma, in the presence of the Secretary General of the province, provincial directors, literacy operators as well as facilitators.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Nayala, Honore Frederic Pare, encouraged learners, facilitators, and supervisors to demonstrate diligence and perseverance to achieve a 100% success rate. He expressed his hope that 2026 would be a year of peace, health, and prosperity, while paying tribute to the defense and security forces for their efforts in restoring peace.
The Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education, Thomas Garane, congratulated the women and all stakeholders for their commitment to the fight against ignorance. He highlighted the performance of the previous campaign, with a 97% success rate in obtaining the certificate and an 11% dropout rate. Thanks to these results, 33 new literacy centers have been allocated to Nayala for the 2026 campaign, Mr. Garane added.
The head of the National Association for Bible Translation and Literacy (ANTBA), Suzanne Ki-Zerbo, traced the history of literacy in the San language, from the Bantare operation in 1986-1987, the learning of San transcription in 1989 in Tougan, to the collaboration with the National Fund for Literacy and Non-Formal Education (FONAENF) from 2003. She praised the commitment of the authorities and the vision of Captain Ibrahim Traore for the promotion of national languages.
