The Yii-Bisnan Association Honors Thomas Sankara’s Legacy to Inspire Leo’s Youth

Sissili: The Yii-Bisnan association organized a public conference on Saturday, April 4, 2026, focusing on the ideals and legacy of Captain Thomas Sankara. This meeting, chaired by the High Commissioner of the Sissili Province, Tewende Isaac Sia, aimed to equip the younger generation with an understanding of the values of the Revolution, fostering renewed civic engagement.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the Yii-Bisnan association, Issaka Ouedraogo, emphasized the importance of truly understanding Thomas Sankara's life to honor his name. This conference sought to revive the memory of the "father of the Revolution" amid a national context of renewed revolutionary enthusiasm.

High Commissioner Tewende Isaac Sia stressed that Sankara's ideals should be reflected in local development, particularly through food self-sufficiency. He highlighted initiatives in Sissili aligned with Sankara's vision, including significant agricultural projects like the dedication of over 21.5 hectares to wheat cultivation, urging communities to enhance their capabilities for solidarity and food sovereignty.

Volunteer guides from the Thomas Sankara Memorial, Talato Ouedraogo and Issouf Lankoande, led presentations. Ms. Ouedraogo encouraged young people to be "active and educated" to build the future, drawing parallels between the visions of Captain Ibrahim Traore and Thomas Sankara.

Idrissa Barry, general manager of Tampani radio in Leo, supported the initiative, praising its value and the relevance of the chosen theme. Issaka Ouedraogo highlighted the association's daily work caring for orphans and vulnerable children, calling for solidarity in sustainable development efforts.

Additionally, certificates of recognition were presented to the speakers as part of the event.
