Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, has announced his resignation due to tensions with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission."In light of these latest developments, which once again demonstrate questionable governance, I must conclude that I can no longer exercise my functions within the college," Mr Breton wrote on X. "Another candidate will be proposed to you" by France, added the former French minister.According to the resigning European Commissioner, Ursula von der Leyen "asked France to withdraw its name" from the composition of the new European Commission team, in exchange for "a supposedly more influential portfolio for France in the future college". According to Mr Breton, the reasons for this withdrawal also lie in "personal reasons that in no case did you [Ms von der Leyen] discuss directly with me".According to Politico, Ms von der Leyen is pushing for the new term of the European Commission to begin on November 1, despite difficulties in appro ving some candidates. Earlier, the outlet reported, citing sources, that Mr Breton's candidacy had been listed among Ms von der Leyen's potential successors at the head of the European Commission.Source: Burkina Information Agency
