Tenkodogo:More than 18,000 people from 30 communes of the Nakamb region gathered at Place de la Nation in Tenkodogo on Tuesday to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP) in support of the fighting forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was sponsored by El Hadj Ousseni Sorgho and attended by various dignitaries, including the Honorable Samadou Ouar, a representative from the Presidency of Faso, and members of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC). Also present were traditional leaders and representatives from the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) agriculture sector.
The celebration, which began with participants arriving from 5:00 PM and activities officially starting at 6:00 PM, featured over 50 artists performing in a festive and patriotic atmosphere. Speeches during the event addressed the security situation, social cohesion, and development efforts in the region.
El Hadj Ousseni Sorgho praised the large turnout and emphasized the importance of maintaining national solidarity to support the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the VDP. He also highlighted the population's support for the Patriotic Support Fund and initiatives like Faso Mbo, which enhance national sovereignty.
Governor Yiy Abraham Somdo of the Nakamb region commended the popular mobilization and noted the significant progress, including the return of over 78,000 previously displaced people to their homes. He acknowledged the sacrifices of the fighting forces in combating insecurity and cited infrastructure improvements in Tenkodogo, such as the redevelopment of Place de la Nation.
Somdo called for continued support for security and development, announcing a forthcoming initiative to equip the region's fighting forces with 100 motorcycles and various equipment within the next 100 days. He encouraged ongoing contributions to the Patriotic Support Fund, stressing that while progress has been made, more work remains.
The evening concluded with artistic performances that included messages of support for the fighting forces and appeals for peace and development.
