Sourou: The Tougan health district aims to immunize more than 58,000 children against polio. The chief medical officer of the Tougan health district, Jerome Nikiema, met on Thursday with various social groups in Sourou province to advocate for widespread participation in the vaccination campaign against polio and the vitamin A supplementation days (JVA+). This initiative targets over 58,400 children aged 0 to 59 months.According to Burkina Information Agency, the advocacy workshop, chaired by the province's high commissioner, Desire Badolo, convened at the health district. It brought together traditional and religious leaders, provincial directors, local media, bloggers, influencers, security agents, and civil society representatives. The aim was to solicit the involvement of all social strata for comprehensive support from the target public.Jerome Nikiema emphasized that the objective of the meeting was to harmonize understandings and rally support for raising awareness and mobilizing stakeholders for a successful campaign. He noted that the campaign is a first of its kind, addressing polio vaccination for children from 0 to 59 months, the administration of vitamin A for those aged 6 to 59 months, and malnutrition screening for children from 12 to 59 months.The campaign, which is completely free, is scheduled to run from Friday, November 7, to Monday, November 10, 2025, in Sourou province. Abel Zalla, a representative from the Catholic community and a participant in the workshop, expressed satisfaction with the discussions and committed to disseminating information within his community, particularly during meetings and Sunday services.Desire Badolo, the High Commissioner of Sourou, encouraged participants to convey accurate information to the population to raise awareness about the potential impact of polio on human capital. He also mentioned that resilient mechanisms are in place to ensure coverage of all localities within the province. The polio vaccination campaign is set to begin on Friday, November 7, and conclude on Monday, November 10, 2025, in Sourou province.
