Babakuy:Koosin The inhabitants of the Babakuy district in the village of Konkuy-Boho, located in the commune of Doumbala, recently gathered for a collective session of traditional fonio threshing. This event, held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, serves to preserve cultural identity and reinforce social cohesion within the community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event featured young people, children, and adults, who, equipped with specially designed sticks, beat piles of fonio to the rhythm of drums. The session unfolded in a festive atmosphere, accompanied by applause and ululations from women and girls, highlighting the cultural significance of the practice.

The traditional threshing activity is more than just agricultural work; it is an opportunity to transmit cultural values to the younger generations. Georges Traore, a young resident, described the threshing period as a special time that allows for efficient work through collective effort. He also mentioned that these meetings help resolve conflicts and provide educational opportunities, reinforcing the need to perpetuate the practice despite modern advancements.
