Traffic Accident Triggers Power Outage in Tcheriba

Tcheriba: A traffic accident causes a general power outage. The commune of Tch©riba was plunged into darkness on the evening of April 8, 2026, following the overturning of an electricity pole by an overloaded truck, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, testimonies gathered on site revealed that the vehicle, coming from the village of Z©kuy, was carrying a large cargo of cotton exceeding the authorized standards. At around 6 p.m., the truck became entangled in the electrical cables of the National Electricity Company of Burkina Faso (SONABEL).

The driver reportedly tried to force his way through, causing electrical wires to be torn down and a concrete pole to fall onto the road. Alerted, the municipal authorities and law enforcement went to the scene to investigate the facts.

The incident caused significant material damage, including the destruction of the electricity pole, resulting in a power outage throughout the municipality. The truck driver was arrested and taken, along with his vehicle and cargo, to the Tch©riba gendarmerie brigade for the purposes of the investigation.

According to security sources, the worst was avoided, as the city was already without electricity at the time of the incident due to load shedding, which limited the risk of fire. While waiting for SONABEL's technical teams to intervene to restore the network, the commander of the gendarmerie brigade, Herv© Tiendr©b©ogo, called on road users to strictly respect the highway code in order to prevent such incidents.
